I adopted a beautiful Potcake named Katie Starfish from the Grand Bahama Humane Society. She was gorgeous with her black and white polka dots. I had seen her on Petfinders.com and fell in love with her picture. When I contacted the Humane Society they told me that she had Tic Disease and Heart Worms and would need medical treatment. It did not matter to me… at this point I was in love and knew she was going to be a member of my family. When she arrived via cargo plane in Fort Lauderdale I went to pick her up. I really was not prepared for Katie. She was full of tics and fleas and very scared. I had a difficult time getting her out of my car when I arrived home as she had wedged herself under the front seat. Flash forward several months… after a lot of love Katie started to blossom. She survived the horrible Heart Worm treatment and was literally coming alive. It goes to show what love, care and kindness can do for a broken soul. Katie became a sweet, gentle dog who went on walks, swam in the pool and at the beach and went on adventures with me. Katie is no longer with me. I miss her little face and sweet nature. I encourage anyone to not give up on their dog. Katie was not easy at first… but she was worth the effort.
